Test drive: 2011 Suzuki Kizashi Sport
<a href="http://cars.about.com/od/suzuki/fr/2011-Suzuki-Kizashi-Sport-Test-Drive.htm"><img src="http://0.tqn.com/d/cars/1/0/J/J/2/11-kizashi-sport-bigbloglt.jpg" border="0" alt="2011 Suzuki Kizashi Sport" hspace="+5" align="center" /></a> When Suzuki launched the Kizashi in 2010, I saw it as the Japanese Jetta: Same tweener size, same driver-oriented focus, but with a bit less soul. For 2011, Suzuki has launched a "Sport" version with a stiffer suspension and racy stying details -- but without the V6 or turbo engine we were expecting. With the launch of the "decontented" <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&zu=http://cars.about.com/od/volkswagen/fr/2011-Volkswagen-Jetta-Test-Drive.htm">2011 Volkswagen Jetta</a> -- which, in my opinion, isn't nearly as good as the <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&zu=http://cars.about.com/od/volkswagen/fr/08_vw_jetta_se.htm">old Jetta</a> -- there's an enormous opportunity for the Kizashi Sport. But does the little Suzuki have what it takes to satisfy? I was elsewhere driving a <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&zu=http://cars.about.com/od/lincoln/gr/2011-Lincoln-Mkz-Hybrid-Test-Drive.htm">hybrid Lincoln</a> during the Kizashi Sport press preview, so I asked Basem Wasef (who, among other things, is About.com's Guide to <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&zu=http://motorcycles.about.com">Motorcycles</a>) to go forth and seek the answer. Test drive: 2011 Lincoln MKZ Hybrid
<a href="http://cars.about.com/od/lincoln/gr/2011-Lincoln-Mkz-Hybrid-Test-Drive.htm"><img src="http://0.tqn.com/d/cars/1/0/4/J/2/11_mkzhybrid_blog.jpg" border="0" alt="2011 Lincoln MKZ Hybrid badge" hspace="+5" align="right" /></a>Last year, the revised <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&zu=http://cars.about.com/od/lincoln/fr/10_lincoln_mkz.htm">Lincoln MKZ</a> scored a four-star review on this site, while the <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&zu=http://cars.about.com/od/ford/gr/10_fusion_hybrid.htm">Ford Fusion Hybrid</a> earned a four-and-a-half star review. For 2011, Ford has essentially combined the two, fitting the Fusion Hybrid's drivetrain to the MKZ. This is one of those cars that seemingly just can't go wrong...of course, the things that can't go wrong often do. Updated: Best cars for teens
<a href="http://cars.about.com/od/helpforcarbuyers/tp/Topten_teen.htm"><img src="http://0.tqn.com/d/cars/1/0/r/I/2/11_mazda2_bloglt.jpg" border="0" alt="2011 Mazda2" hspace="+5" align="left" /></a>School is about to begin, and I have once again updated my list of the <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&zu=http://cars.about.com/od/helpforcarbuyers/tp/Topten_teen.htm">Top Ten Cars for Teens</a>. We've debated in the past whether it's a good idea to buy your teen driver a brand-new car. Some say it's better to buy a used car for young drivers, while others say parents shouldn't buy their teens a car at all -- the kids should pay for their own wheels. Still, buying a new car is the best way to ensure that a young driver has the latest safety hardware, an important consideration considering that car crashes are the number one killer of teens in America. With that in mind, I made some major changes to the list, primarily concentrating on safety. Six cars have been dropped from last year's list. Nine come with <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&zu=http://cars.about.com/od/thingsyouneedtoknow/a/ESC.htm">electronic stability control</a> as standard (it's optional on the tenth) and two have driver's knee airbags. Six of the cars are <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&zu=http://www.iihs.org/ratings/default.aspx">IIHS Top Safety Pick</a> winners; two haven't been tested but are likely candidates. And all are small, fuel-efficient and easy to drive. <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&zu=http://cars.about.com/od/helpforcarbuyers/tp/Topten_teen.htm">Check out the new list here</a>. 2011 Volkswagen Jetta S test drive: The $16,000 Jetta!
<a href="http://cars.about.com/od/volkswagen/gr/2011-Volkswagen-Jetta-S-Test-Drive.htm"><img src="http://0.tqn.com/d/cars/1/0/d/I/2/ag_11jettas_bloglt1.JPG" border="0" alt="2011 Volkswagen Jetta S" hspace="+5" align="left" /></a>We've <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&zu=http://cars.about.com/od/volkswagen/ig/2011-Volkswagen-Jetta-photos/">discussed the $16,000 Jetta here on this blog</a> (which, by the way, actually costs $16,765 with the destination fee -- the Jetta, that is, not the blog) and now I've had a chance to drive it. It wasn't too long ago that I <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&zu=http://cars.about.com/od/volkswagen/fr/2011-Volkswagen-Jetta-Test-Drive.htm">test drove the 2011 Jetta</a> at a VW press preview, but the only cars available were top-of-the line SEL models. I wasn't impressed with the value -- the obvious cost-cutting proved detrimental to the character that made the <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&zu=http://cars.about.com/od/volkswagen/fr/08_vw_jetta_se.htm">outgoing Jetta</a> so appealing to me -- but I thought the new Jetta might be a better deal in base-model "S" form. What I did on my summer vacation

Robin and I went to Puerto Rico for our 5th anniversary and my 39th birthday. The original idea was to relax on a beach, but we're natural-born explorers, and we put nearly a thousand miles on a rented Kia Rio (no mean feat, as the island is only 100 miles long) as we explored the Puerto Rico's beautiful and unbelievably varied scenery. Aaron's returning from his trip soon, so this will be my last chance to talk with you directly for a while. 2011 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Test Drive and Review

Today, another blast from "Exotic Kristen." She's Kristen Hall-Geisler, About.com's Guide to <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&zu=http://exoticcars.about.com">Exotic Cars</a>, and she just spent time under the wings of a $200,000 dream car. When someone asks if you'd do them the favor of driving the <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&zu=http://exoticcars.about.com/od/reviews/fr/Mercedes-Benz-Sls-Amg-Gullwing-Review.htm">2011 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG</a> nearly 200 miles so it can be put on a truck, the correct answer is, "Yes, please, may I have another?" As a fan of the first Mercedes gullwing of the 1950s, I was excited to drive the latest AMG-powered iteration from Seattle to Portland -- as a favor, of course. The car drives as politely in rush-hour traffic as you could want, shifting early and often through its seven speeds. But when the highway opened up, the SLS was game for whatever I dared do, and probably much, much more. The cockpit is cozy, the nose is long, and the engine note is racy. The iconic <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&zu=http://exoticcars.about.com/od/reviews/ig/Mercedes-Benz-SLS-AMG-Test-Drive/SLSAMG_doorup.htm">doors</a> are not automatic, so you get to do your coolest Stirling Moss impression as you climb in and pull down the door. 2011 Porsche Panamera V6 Test Drive & Review
Jason from <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&zu=http://suvs.about.com">SUVs</a> here again. <a href="http://cars.about.com/od/porsche/gr/2011-Porsche-Panamera-V6-Test-Drive.htm"><img src="http://0.tqn.com/d/suvs/1/0/w/3/0/-/BlogPanamera.jpg" border="1" alt="" align="right" /></a>There aren't many sedans that I'd call a bargain when they start at $75,350 and go up from there. But the <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&zu=http://cars.about.com/od/porsche/gr/2011-Porsche-Panamera-V6-Test-Drive.htm">2011 Porsche Panamera V6</a> just might be the bargain of the year. In case you missed it, the Panamera is the first Porsche sedan. Aaron reviewed the V8 edition, the <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&zu=http://cars.about.com/od/porsche/fr/10_panamera.htm">2010 Porsche Panamera</a>, when it came out, and he went wild for it. "Yes, I think the Panamera is good. In fact, I think it's great," was how he put it, including the italics. If you ever get to spend time with Aaron, and you should hope you do, you'll realize that he speaks in italics when he's passionate about something. And that something is usually a great new car. I don't speak in italics very often, but the Panamera had me slanting my letters, especially after a blast on the Autobahn that completely convinced me that Porsche's new V6 is up to the task of motivating a sports sedan. 2010 Jaguar XKR Convertible Test Drive and Review

You don't know me very well over here, but let me assure you -- I'm not a rich guy. I don't think I ever will be a rich guy, and to be honest with you, I don't really understand rich guys very well. But every once in a while, I get to live like a rich guy for a few days, at least while I'm behind the wheel. For instance, I reviewed this <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&zu=http://cars.about.com/od/jaguar/fr/2010-Jaguar-Xkr-Convertible-Test-Drive.htm">2010 Jaguar XKR Convertible</a>. Every time I climbed behind the wheel, I was more in touch with my inner rich guy. I understood what it would be like to plunk down $108,000 for a car, and the more I drove the XKR, the more I wished that I had an extra hundred grand laying around. Which begs the point -- why do we review vehicles that only a small fraction of you would even consider buying? I can think of a few reasons. First, these cars are fun to drive, fun to look at, and fun to read about. They are the supermodels of the automotive world. Second, today's cutting edge technology is tomorrow's standard feature. Amazing technologies that one day only appeared on high end luxury cars, like disc brakes, cruise control, traction control and others, are now included on even the least expensive vehicles. When we review high end cars, we get a preview of what the popular car market will be driving in a few years. Third, high end vehicles are aspirational. Who knows? Maybe you'll fall in love with the <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&zu=http://cars.about.com/od/jaguar/fr/2010-Jaguar-Xkr-Convertible-Test-Drive.htm">2010 Jaguar XKR Convertible</a>, and you'll decide to work harder at the lab so you can afford one. You'll discover a cure for the common cold, and we'll all be the better for your automotive lust.
